I am an experienced BACP Accredited counsellor and I work with adolescents and adults on an open-ended basis or for an agreed time period. I work integratively which means that I recognise each person’s unique experiences and challenges; I draw on a range of psychotherapeutic approaches to provide counselling which is tailored to best meet the needs of each individual. I can also offer ad-hoc or ongoing consultation and support for parents supporting children with mental health and emotional wellbeing difficulties.
Qualifications & Experience
I have a BA Honours Degree (First) in Integrative-Relational Counselling from the University of Middlesex.
I have been practising as a counsellor since 2011. My first counselling experience was as a volunteer with ChildLine where I completed over 200 hours of telephone and online counselling for children and young people. Since then I have been a counsellor with Heads Together Youth Counselling Service (part of YMCA East Surrey) and Jump Start Youth Counselling Service (Sutton) and since 2015 I have been a counsellor in private practice. I am currently the Counselling Manager at YMCA East Surrey, overseeing a team of 25 counsellors and 4 clinical supervisors. My experience as both a counsellor and manager within youth counselling has given me valuable insight into the challenges facing young people and the many and varied ways in which they can be supported towards good emotional health and living with hope and positivity to achieve their full potential.
I undertake ongoing training to meet BACP requirements for Accredited members.
In 2016 I attended a 5 day introductory training course in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy. I also completed a course in Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction. Over recent years I have attended workshops and continuing professional development training covering self-harm, working with suicidal young people, recognising grooming behaviours and preventing childhood sexual abuse, safeguarding children and early help assessment and intervention. I have attended Mental Health First Aid training tailored for work with young people.
